Tony
Mason is a guitarist and vocalist who has worked as a professional
musician for the last 40 years. His experience includes club
and concert work as well as school programs from kindergarten to
college. He has performed with bands but primarily he works as
a soloist accompanying himself with guitar and his own midi
sequences.
Born in New York City, Tony has a background in
folk and blues as well as classical music. He has developed as
a performer playing many venues - coffee houses in the Village and on
college campuses, and numerous small clubs throughout New England.
In the past Tony worked as a performer for the Connecticut Commission
on the Arts, The Arts Exchange in New Hampshire, and the Vermont
Council on the Arts. He has appeared on radio and television
stations around the country.
Tony's voice is an unique and
powerful instrument that he is able to use skillfully. His
songs are both worldly and personal as well as topical. His
warmth makes listening to his performance an exciting experience.
The effect is often that of personally touching each member of his
audience and sharing that sense of embrace. At any performance
you might hear Tony playing his own original work, traditional folk
and blues as well as songs by other artists, both known and unknown.
Tony participated in an album recorded live at the Exit Coffee House in New Haven Connecticut in the 1960's. He also recorded a second album which was released in 1976 on the SEED label. The album, titled “Brick by Brick”, is a collection of original songs written and arranged by Tony. During the 1980's and 1990's Tony stopped performing publicly. He continued working with his music developing arrangements using synthesizers and sequencers to create accompaniments for many of the songs he performs. He now uses these arrangements as backup for his performances.
Currently
Tony is working to expand the range and versatility of his guitar
playing. He is in the process of developing new arrangements with an
increased accent on the guitar. These changes are being incorporated
into his live performance and will be included in future releases of
his work.
