3095 miles

Starting out just east of Cincinnati this morning we got a reasonable start hopping onto the Ohio Turnpike and following 80 further east. In Pennsylvania we started seeing the small family farms that are a major part of the eastern US country side. It is not a farm here and there but it is part of the way of life and the small farms fill the landscape. Wendy worked hard to get pictures of farms so we would have one to show. |
| Wendy managed to achieve Simon's goal of yesterday which was to catch a photo of herself with a nice big bubble in full development. I think the reason she was successful was because she set an easier goal than Simon who was trying to catch the world record bubble. It was a fairly long trip across Pennsylvania. It was over 300 miles and it was in Pennsylvania that we left route 80 and got back onto I84. | ![]() |

In Oregon there is no self service of gasoline. When the kids discovered that they could fill the tank and wash the windows too it became a coveted and competitive goal at each stop. They took turns filling the vehicle they were riding in and chastised any parent who deemed to top off a tank while they were still washing windows. The road seemed endless and this was a way they could really take part in the process. Wendy developed finesse with shaking the water off the squeegee as she washed the windows while Simon always got a towel so he could wipe off the squeegee. |
Around 6:30 or so we were approaching Newburg, NY and realized that we were close enough to make a late arrival at Willimantic if we pushed. We stopped for a quick supper in Danbury and kept moving in the dark. At a little before midnight we knocked at Jay's door to say hi. She had made a reservation for us at a motel in town and after hellos and hugs and some phone calls to family and friends we setup a meeting for breakfast and crashed. |

Well we did it and seem to have arrived intact, people, dogs and cats. It is the beginning of a new time and an exciting time that is our own. We wonder what it is going to be like. We are looking forward to living it out. We have learned a great deal from our journey to Oregon and all of us have grown a great deal.
