Jay's 90th Birthday Party

Sunday, after some careful sneaking around and planning, we celebrated Jay's 90th birthday (May 18). The plan was to have people drift in and out through the afternoon and evening. Well, like all the best laid plans of mice and men, this one had some problems but the surprise was total and a good time was had by all.
Let me tell the stories about some of the problems. Nia, who was driving up from New York, called about 3:15 saying that her car had broken down about 5 miles before getting here. I said, "I'll go out and get her". She had the cake and the ham and a bunch of other party related items with her. While I was out, Sarah and Lois called up because they needed directions and Jay got furious because no one would let her talk on the phone in her own house. Of course, neither Teddy nor Doris knew who Sarah and Lois were and so Jay assumed they were giving directions to her house to strangers. Jay hadn't seen Sarah or Lois for about ten years and didn't connect their names with the party.
To say Jay was surprised is an understatement. The people count reached as high as thirty at one point even though people were dropping in and out. Kayode came late with Nicole and his two kids plus Simon and Wendy. The house was full with family and life. Jay was overwhelmed, tired, exhausted and smiling. Kayode and the New Hampshire crew didn't leave until after midnight.

Happy Birthday Jay! Congratulations on ninety years of being yourself 100 percent.
