In the Quiet Corner of Connecticut one of the major perks are the fall sunsets. I know that some of the color is the polution that is part of the time but sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy. This is a photo taken in the parking lot of one of the shopping centers that faces an area of trees across the road where development has not yet occurred. This glorious color is present into December. I am not certain why this part of the year seems so intense but I look forward to it.

In the fall we went to a party at Randy's house. Randy had a sort of birthday fall celebration combination and we went along with many other folks from the community. There were lots of kids at the party and Simon had just started his art class at Windham and was sketching all the time. Of course his sketches included many characters from various video games and animations. Well is there interest in the younger generation in this stuff. I think so. Siimon has always connected well with younger kids and he was the center of attention for a good part of this evening.

This is just Buke standing on the patio. She likes this area and often wanders walking along the flower boxes and window sills. Today she was just wandering. Because we are including animals and because this is a picture I never showed anyone I thought I would include it here. The cats all seem to have a distain for each other but they like us so we ask them why they seem to have so much of a problem with each other.

And connecting with the patio here is Ophelia sitting on the flower box where we grow tomatoes. There are a strange variety of plants that live in these flower boxes that surround the patio. Teddy and Jay and Simon and Wendy all do a little of the work making it colorful in the summer. The tomator section is shared by mums that get spectacular after the tomatoes are gone. This year we lost some of the mums so it is a little barren. Ophelia has a way of looking elegant all the time.

Zelda was standing in the living room and the morning sun came in through the window lighting her face. I liked it and caught this photo. Zelda must be 5 years old now and she has been with us since she was a little puppy. She is the first dog I've known that was raised by another dog rather than a person. We got her so Percy would have a friend and the two of them has been together ever since. When Percy was away for the summer a couple of years ago we realized that she would be fine without him. She liked being the first dog. She looks at you with a strange gaze and you wonder what is on her mind.

This fall Simon went over to Alice's house and split some wood for her. It was an old tree that had needed to be chopped down and was never split. Some of the logs were pretty big but with the help of a mall and a good wedge Simon did the whole tree in a couple of sessions. On this day Teddy came out and helped with figuring out how to split some of the thicker pieces. Alice came out and was very impressed. Simon of course has had a good deal of practice splitting at home as well.

Kayode wrestles in the fall as part of the Western New England College team in the 184 pound weight class. This match was part of a 16 school competition that happened at Springfield College. In this match Kayode not only maintained control but was victorious over his opponent. He has had a good season this year and has 11 pins in mid January which is a tie for the most pins by a wrestler for the season as of January 15th.

On Christmas we went to Diana's Pool for a walk and some picture taking. I was facinated by the textures of this piece of wood. It almost seemed like a living thing except for the icicles that hung off it near the back. Diana's Pool has a pool but we are facinated and walk up the stream well past the end of the pool. We discover a place that is old with a wall that was built by people a long time ago. We talk about what it might have been there for. It looked like there were two of the walls that forced the stream to flow through it.

Teddy spotted this view saying, "Tony why don't you take that one." An out in the stream is one of a number of little icons that someone created. There are rocks and cliffs by the pool and some of that is just gorgeous. I was looking at the work of one of the artist's that works as part of the Windham Area Artists Colaborative and recognized this favorite spot. Sometimes I wonder about all the places that exist in the woods that no one has discovered yet and realize that I have a lot of exploring I can do to make my own discoveries. I remeber the camping area that is on the back side of Mount Hood and want to go back there with a camera.

This is a later addition to this page. Teddy and Wendy are walking together in the woods at Putney School. We were there for the parent teacher weekend where we had the chance to attend classes and meet with Wendy's teachers. She was involved in an athletic activity that included walking and running in paths in the woods at the school and she took us on one of her favorites here. I added this because of a poem I received via email that reminded me that there are so many things we can share with each other because of the tools that we have available today. As parents we are sometimes confused by the choices that our children make but we are also made wiser by taking the time to understand their journey and watch them grow into who they are.
